From Idea to Launch: Shipping Small Products

Every product starts with a list far longer than the calendar allows. The skill is not in working faster — it is in deciding what not to build.

One sentence per feature

Write each feature as a single sentence starting with "The user can…". If you cannot, the feature is not understood well enough to build.

The first release

Your first release needs exactly three things:

  • A working core loop.
  • A way to measure whether it works.
  • An exit: how users sign up, pay, or come back.

Everything else is iteration.

Ship, then listen

A launched product produces evidence. A roadmap produces assumptions. Get to the evidence as quickly as you responsibly can.
